BESPOKE THERAPEUTIC SUPPORT FOR NEURODIVERGENT YOUNG PEOPLE.

YOUR MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS.

About

Hello, I'm Tori and I run Neuro Power - a mental health support service based in East Devon for neurodivergent young people, run by a neurodivergent old person (me). The name was chosen by my son who wanted to include the word 'power' as I empower my clients and their families. I am an autism specialist and also provide neuroaffirmative training and consultancy work.

MY MISSION

At Neuro Power, I provide bespoke mental health support to neurodivergent young people. As a neurodivergent practitioner, I am passionate about helping young people with their mental health, self-esteem, identity, and advocacy. I believe that our young people are not broken and do not need to be fixed. I offer bespoke therapies tailored to each individual's unique needs. I am here to support and empower young people to thrive.

About Me

I am a neurodivergent parent of a wonderful young man who is autistic and PDA, which means I have lived experience of parenting a teen who is fabulous in a world that doesn't always accommodate his identity. I worked in education for 20 years and am aware of the impact of the school environment on some young people, meaning I can validate their experiences. My extensive qualifications all involve autism, ADHD, PDA and anxiety. I have completed a Pg Dip in Adapting Existing Therapies for Autistic young people and those with Learning Difficulties (Pg Dip IAPT ASC / LD). I offer therapeutic interventions, advocacy work, parental support and consultancy work.

Support Available

Anxiety Support

This could include psychoeducation around understanding what anxiety is, how it affects us and some tools for living with anxiety. This will often link to the sensory profile.

Identity and Well-being Support

This is invaluable for young people who have masked for a long time, and require support unmasking. Some young people benefit from self-care support as well and life skills.

Advocacy

This will support young people who have experienced a deficit-based approach and would benefit from knowing how wonderful they are. It will include a strengths-based approach, as well as learning what amendments others need to make and how to advocate for themselves. Further support available for families to navigate neurodivergence or to  understand diagnoses.

Thoughts and Feelings

There is an opportunity to learn about negative automatic thoughts, types of thoughts and how these thoughts can make us feel. Feedback has been that this helps young people who experience overwhelming thoughts and develops problem-solving skills while still respecting their neurodivergence.

ACT

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy has been successful for many of my autistic clients, as it works on the premise that the young person does not need to change, and focuses on strengths, values and unhooking from negative experiences.

Low Mood

Low Mood can develop among our neurodivergent community who are often in environments where their needs are not being met. I can support young people in sessions with their low mood, and combine with some advocacy work if needed.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Although I am qualified to offer CBT, I appreciate that this isn't necessarily a suitable intervention for neurodivergent young people. Some clients I have had have really benefited from some elements of this approach, such as calming somatic responses, or understanding how our thoughts, feelings and behaviours are interlinked. Adaptions will be made for all young people.

Anxiety around Attending School

Many neurodivergent young people find school to be a traumatic environment, and believe themselves to be the problem (which they are not!). Some clients have benefited from learning why school worries them and how best to navigate this. I must stress that I won't advocate for the young person remaining in school if they are struggling, and I won't give them coping skills when they're saying they're unhappy.

Testimonials

"Tori is life-changing to know and this venture is just what our world needs."

“I have been so lucky to work alongside Tori for the past year and have learnt so much from her which I’ve been able to use in my own practice as a therapist so I can absolutely vouch for the fact that she is wonderful, supportive, and insanely talented at what she does."

"Neuro Power is an awesome website. I love how Mummy does in-person sessions at the Cosy Cabin. Mummy has helped me to listen to my body and do what's best. Now I can spread that to people too.”

"We're so glad we met you Tori. You're an angel on Earth and you've made the biggest difference to our family."

"Incredible support with a kind, caring manner. An SEN advocate that is truly inspirational."

"Tori has given me a helping hand to lift me up and help me excel."

"My child was struggling massively with school and had been unable to attend due to extreme anxiety and sensory issues. In just a few sessions with Tori, there was a big improvement in confidence and ability to cope with her anxiety.

“Tori was recommended by a friend and I'm so glad we found her! Instantly my child and I felt completely comfortable in her company. Tori was very good at speaking with my child in a way that helped them to open up about their worries, which helped me to communicate with the school some changes that would be needed to ensure they felt happy and heard. Thank you Tori for not just making a difference to my six year old but for helping me feel empowered to become the advocate that they deserve."

"Finding Tori has been a blessing for my daughter. She has helped her to understand what it means to be autistic and the growth in my daughter's confidence has been huge. Tori has taught her how to manage her environment and to understand what her unique strengths are. It's a joy to see her start to flourish and to feel positive about her future, at last! Tori has been invaluable and I can't recommend her enough."

We were lost as a family, worried about our teen's mental health. As a mum I felt desperate, not knowing where to turn. Then we found Tori. Words can't explain the change in our boy. He manages his life so differently now. When asking my son about how Tori helps, he said, "She is my person." Tori thank you for helping him be the man he always could be. Thank you for taking the worry away. Thank you for being you.

Tori has been a massive help to my daughter and I'm extremely grateful for her guidance and support over the last 6 months. My daughter having her own space to talk and be heard has been invaluable, and has had such a positive impact on her wellbeing and happiness.

'Tori has been amazing for my 14 year old son. He always looks forward to his sessions. He has ADHD & was really struggling at school. Tori has boosted his confidence by helping him understand how his brain works & also with strategies to cope with everyday life. Such a positive experience for all of us !'

Tori’s dedication and kindness have had such a positive impact on our son. She has an extensive knowledge of autism and a deep understanding of his needs. He always looks forward to his sessions with her.Tori also supports us as a family. Her knowledge and advice have helped us as parents better understand how to support our son, and this extends beyond our home and into his classroom where she has attended meetings to advocate for him. We are beyond thankful for her support.

I am so glad I found Tori. My autistic daughter was recently diagnosed and was struggling with anxiety as well as coming to terms with her diagnosis. She really enjoys talking to Tori and has benefitted hugely from being able to talk to someone who is neuro- affirming. Talking to Tori has boosted her confidence and given her a safe, confidential space to discuss her experiences openly. Tori has been extremely beneficial to her mental health and my daughter’s understanding and acceptance of her diagnosis.
